This vintage Ibanez Model 2454 from the 70’s is a spectacular example of the famed “lawsuit guitars” that are so sought after for their likenesses to the most popular guitars of their time. This guitar reads “Made in Japan” on the label and weighs 9.5 lbs, and would make an awesome edition to any collection.
Functionally, the guitar is almost all original and in perfect working order. The pickups are strong with a rich humbucking tone. The knobs and switch move as intended without sticking and have no scratchy sounds. The pots and the output jack were professionally replaced by our on site luthier. The bridge, tailpiece, and tuning machines function perfectly and hold tune well, and the truss rod is easy to adjust. The original frets are in superb condition considering their age, and show very little wear at all. There is also no pitting on the fingerboard, which has plenty of life left in it.
Aesthetically, the instrument is very good with small signs of age. All of the original chrome hardware is shiny no signs of corrosion, and the original tuning machine buttons are firmly attached and shiny. There is light to moderate wear over the body of the instrument, but the original red color is bright and vibrant with only slight discoloration in a few areas and no finish checking to be seen. There is slight discoloration of the finish on the top and the back at the end of the cutaways, and the strap buttons have been replaced to match the original hardware. There are two small chips through the finish (pictured) on the right side of the middle/ lower bout. There are a few very small dings or scratches, namely one on the switch side of the pickups on the top, and one small ding on each cutaway on the top. There is also one small ding on the back of the headstock. There is one noticeable scratch on the back of the body, but otherwise the back only shows some lite to moderate wear from age.
All of the original plastic parts are firmly attached with no cracking or discoloration, and all of the original inlays on the fret board are present and have beautifully maintained their color. There is one section of the back binding below the strap button that has been expertly rebound by our professional luthier, but the rest of the original binding is firmly attached with a fair amount of cracking which is common for an instrument of this age. The finish on the headstock is vibrant , with only one or two dings on the top edge of the headstock.
The original label has started to peel off but is still attached and reads “Model 2454”. It is also hand signed (pictured) by the master luthier of the hollow body production according to our research.
The original case is included and in excellent condition. All of the original latches and hinges are attached and in good working working condition, as well as the original handle and and case feet. The exterior covering shows moderate wear with a few small tears or marks on the edges, but with no large sections of covering missing. The interior maintains its original color with very little discoloration, and shows no rips, tears or stains, and is still a viable case to keep and protect the instrument.
This guitar was also recently professionally serviced by our in house luthier, including a deep cleaning, action and intonation adjustments, fingerboard cleaning and a fret polish.
Overall this Ibanez Model 2454 is a unique piece of guitar history and would make an awesome addition for collectors and players alike. Don’t let this rare piece get away!
