The Martin 00-18 has been a classic guitar for generations, and this Vintage 00-18 is no exception, and is the perfect guitar for any collector looking to add to their studio or for lifetime instrument. This particular guitar weighs in at a feathweight 3.5 lbs.
This particular Martin 00-18 is from 1969 and is in great shape for its age and is functionally superb. The tuning machines are upgraded Schaller tuners that hold tune well and turn smoothly, and the neck has had a recent professional neck set and plays like a dream. This guitar has also had a professional refret and the new frets are nice and shiny with minimal wear. The original bridge is firmly attached, and the replaced saddle and bridge pins are stable and have lots of sustain. The nut appears to be original with wear consistent to the age of the rest of the guitar, and a non original strap button has been added at the neck joint. The guitar has been upgraded and kept up with throughout the years to keep it in great playing condition.
Aesthetically, this guitar has seen its fair share of travel but is in awesome player grade condition. There are no major dings on the headstock, but some minor wear around the edges of the headstock. The chrome Schaller tuning machines are shiny and show no signs of rust. There are some marks on the front of the headstock from where the grommets of the original tuning machines were, and the holes on the back of the headstock where the original screws were are visible but have been mostly filled. There are several moderate marks on the finish on the back of the neck, but no serious dings or significant scratches through the finish. The top is in great shape, with wear consistent with a guitar of this age. There is fair to heavy pick scratching on and around the pickguard, but mostly on the pickguard itself with some scratching below it. There is also some very handsome finish crazing in short strands evenly over the whole top beginning to form. There is one length of separation on the face on the right side shoulder from the top edge of the face to just below the pick-guard that has been secured by our luthier. Other than the slight consistent wear, there are no significant nicks or dings on the top.
The back and sides of the guitar shows similar wear to the top. There is some slight wear over the whole back, with some areas of significant buckle rash in the middle and the lower half of the back, in some places almost through the finish. The original binding is present and firmly attached, with some nicks on the binding, especially in one area on the right side back face near the hip on the guitar. There are several small dings through the finish throughout the sides on all side faces of the guitar.
The original case is no longer present, although we are including an after market hard shell case.
Overall this is a great guitar for someone looking to dip their toes into starting a vintage collection, or would be a great studio guitar that you’re not afraid to put to work. Examples like this only become more rare, so be sure to scoop this one up before it’s gone!
